Curb appeal galore with a giant pergola covering the patio with cedar patio fences and great outdoor seating open into the garage.  Spectacular color splashes, unique furniture and contemporary floor to ceiling modular paneled fireplace set the mood for winter.  A combination of contemporary clean lines mixed with the old feel and cream city brick interior make The Tonic the “Bar that Grabs You”.

Tonic Tavern Wins A Mayor's Design Award

Mayor Tom Barrett unveils the 2010 Mayor’s Design Awards for contributing to the design excellence of the urban landscape.  The Tonic Tavern, 2335 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. is one of the winners in the "Design That Grabs You" category, awarded to projects that have great curb appeal, street engagement, inviting exteriors, welcoming entries and gathering spaces for the public.

 

Paul Jonas, owner of The Tonic Tavern, and longtime bartender, musician, and native Milwaukeean, set out to pursue his dream and transformed a turn of the century horse carriage building into one of the hottest trend-setting bars in Milwaukee.

Paul collaborated with Architect Kurt Young-Binter, and Tom Vavra of 'V' Design, to meet city and state structural codes. Award winning interior designer, Stephanie Quinn, of The OAR Group, to help set the stage with material, color and finish selections, lighting, and furnishings.  Bill Backes, of Backes Fine Carpentry, LLC for custom carpentry and outdoor pergola, fence & planter boxes.  Bar cabinetry was designed by Martin Dietrich of SUP Design.



The Tonic carries a musical theme, featuring live musicians, set in a mid century modern backdrop. The musical theme carries thru with creative design touches - a microphone shaped bar made of reclaimed rafters from the stable and organ- pipe themed back-bar.  A radius concrete floor carries you through the space as you enter the bar area with built-in bench seating that converts to a stage for live musicians.
